Gravity 2018

Gravity feels very much like home ground to me. Being my third year in a row at the show now, I knew the location pretty well and was quite keen to see if it’s at all expanded. Luckily, the guys at SlammedUK managed to organise another hangar for high quality builds.
Speaking of which, there was a lot of high quality material on show in all 4 areas of the venue. Ill start of with some of the photos from the VIP Hall.

If I’m not mistaken, that Z3 there won car of show at least year’s event. This year, rather appropriately , the SlammedUK organisers placed the car on a raised platform. A nice nod to events of the past, and I hope they manage to keep this a tradition at future shows.
Also this time round I made sure to take some photo’s of Tristan’s Jag. He always moans that I never take pictures of it, so this time round I even put it right at the top of the article for him.
Moving onto the Main Hall (or the Yellow area as I called it during the day.)

Now I can’t nail down what my favourite car of the show was, so I’ve nailed it down to two. This white Polo being the first of the two. It’s not very common to see a full on custom job done so well that it looks OEM, but the owner of this car took the off-roading looking kit off of the 5 door CrossPolo and whacked it on a 3 door. It looks spot on, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Well done to you sir.
Not sure if you can tell by the shots, but I found the main hall annoyingly claustrophobic for photos. The heat on the day definitely didn’t help, but trying to take a picture of a car that stood out to me which was tightly boxed in by 8 other cars was no fun. Irritatingly, there was a lot of empty space around the hall which made me wonder if the reason behind that is health and safety or poor pre-planning (although I presume it’s the prior.) I was also surprised to see trade stands slap bang in the middle of the hall, and personally I’d rather see 6 cars in that same spot and trade stands on the outside of the hall. Could have perhaps filled in that space that I mentioned previously?

Now I must admit that I didn’t do a very good job of covering the outside show and shine. I’ll blame the heat rather than my laziness for that one. I did however take a good look around the new hall which was filled full of interesting motors.

This brings me nicely onto the second car that really stood out to me. West’s bagged E30 made its first appearance at Gravity, and what an appearance indeed. I saw the car before it was revealed at thew show, but finally seeing it polished up with the turbo fans on, getting the attention it deserves was really satisfying. I can only imagine how chuffed West must be with it. Well done mate.
And that rounds up the cars that really stood out to me on the day. There was loads I didn’t capture however I for sure know I wasn’t the only person running around with a camera. It’s nice to see Gravity grow in size too, and with SlammedUK having a big following I can see why this show has grown in size since their first gig. This does make me question whether the current location is appropriate, as having such a large amount of people packed into what I’d consider a small venue with no air conditioning wasn’t a highlight of my day (and I know others shared this view too.) I feel a larger venue with more cars on show would be much more fitting of the £20 entry price. Also, being someone whose car application got rejected, only then to see a standard Smart Car in the show and shine made me scratch my head with confusion in ways I’ve not scratched it before. Perhaps it’s me, not them (?)
That is a way Gravity has stayed true to its roots since their first show. Variety is something that they specialise in and I’m keen to see it grow with future events – I hope the comments seem justified and if anything show over achievement than cracks in the event execution.
Next weekend I’ll be at Vanity BMW and then FittedUK before the end of the month. I’ll see you all then.
