Westside VW 2017

Well here we are, slowly approaching the end of show season. For us, there’s only one thing between this article and the end of show season, and that’s Ultimate Stance. That’s a matter for another day, but it does sort of tie into the fact that it’s not easy being last up.

At this point, most people in this so-called scene have seen most things there are to see at shows. The likelihood of someone showing off something new is rather low and it’s tricky to host a show where people will be 100% enthusiastic about the cars alone.

When I say that, I do not mean that the cars aren’t something of interest. They obviously are, it’s a car show, that’s the point. What I mean is that a lot more thinking needs to go into hosting a show other than simply parking some cars up.

The location is important. We’ve been to indoor shows, we’ve been to outdoor shows. While both have their pros and cons, on a nice day you simply can’t go wrong with being outside in the sun.

Westside definitely has a nice gig going on. Upon arrival we were met with nicely cut grass, and a large area to host the cars. Being on the edge of a golf course, I had the chance to make the most of the light coming through the surrounding trees in the morning.

Another important thing I noticed straight away at Westside was the music. It wasn’t too loud so you couldn’t have a conversation with a friend, and it wasn’t so quite that you didn’t notice it. Plus, it helped that the DJ had good taste. No clue who the DJ was to be honest, but it suited the day perfectly!

As I was wandering about the show, I stumbled on this lovely SL500. I say stumbled, I couldn’t really miss it. The car speaks for itself.

One of the main reasons I keep coming back to shows though is for the people I’ve met at them. It’s a good chance to catch up and an equally good chance to me new people. A few years later and I’m still putting names to cars I see all over social media.

This year was our first time attending Westside, and it was also Will’s first show in his daily MX5. There’s a lot of tinkering ahead with this car, but that’s the fun part of being into cars. Right?

All in all, our first Westside experience was easy going. The show was laid back, there was no fussing about and the atmosphere was pleasant. Oh, and the kebab food stand was tremendous too.

I’ll leave you all on that note. We’ve got some interesting plans coming for this website as well as our YouTube page, so be sure to follow us on Instagram as we’ll release most of our details there.

Thanks a lot for reading, I hope you enjoy the rest of the photos.
